Magnus Turpie plays a diatonic 3-row b/c/c# Stradella bass Paramount accordion.
Magnus has been performing in sessions, public and private events since 2017, including 'Loud and Clear' at Scottish Parliament (2018), 'Knight at the Castle' (2018) with fiddler Isla Ratcliffe & accordionist Cavan Rodgers, where they supported singer/songwriter Sophie Penman.

On 20 Jan 2024, Magnus performed, with his band, at Glasgow's Celtic Connections 'Battle of the Folk Bands' event, curated by 'Hands Up for Trad'. Battle of the Folk Bands 2024: Magnus Turpie Combo – Hands Up for Trad.
During 2023, Magnus piloted ‘Pathways’ programmes for 'Live Music Now Scotland' and 'Feis Rois', both of which organisations recognise the under-representation of people with additional support needs in their programmes.
Magnus is also a composer, working towards completion and recording of a ‘4 Seasons’ suite with Drake Music Scotland in a more ‘lounge jazz’ style.
He is responsible for creating the ubiquitous ‘Magnus’s Polka’, which has been gaining popularity nationwide and abroad since its creation in 2013.

Finally, Magnus is a musician who happens to have Down's Syndrome - possibly the least represented of all characteristics protected under the Equality Act (2010) in the Traditional Music-making community.
Magnus's hope is that sharing these insights into his music-making life will increase visibility of this issue and encourage social and musical integration throughout.
